Speak Truth to Power

I am volunteering as an usher for the play this friday night and can take an additional volunteer with me if someone is interested. However, let me know ASAP. The other events are free and open to the public.


The Play

Commemorating both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s birthday and the 40th anniversary of his acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize, Coretta Scott King and Martin Luther King III will host the gala performance of Speak Truth to Power - Voices from the Dark on Friday January 14th at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.
-We want to shine a light on human rights and send a message that there is a loud and mighty voice for freedom alive and shouting in america - says Kerry Kennedy, author of Speak Truth to Power, the book from which the play is adapted.
Martin Sheen, Alfre Woodard, Sean Penn, Robin Wright Penn, Lynn Redgrave, Woody Harrelson, Fisher Stevens, Bob Herbert, Pearl Cleage, Kenny Leon and others will portray the individual human rights defenders featured in the book including - Vaclav Havel of the Czezh Republic and Baltasar Garzon of Spain, as well as Nobel Prize laureates His Holiness, The Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel, Oscar Arias, Rigoberta Menchu, Jose Ramos-Horta, Bobby Mueller and Wangari Maathai

Symposium
The Carter Center and Kerry Kennedy host a symposium Friday January 14th from 1 - 3p.m. Confirmed panelitsts include Nobel Prize'winning human rights defenders Rigoberta Menchu and Bobby Muller for a seminar on Dr. King and human rights. Free and open to the public - Carter Center, Ivan Allen III Pavillion

The Exhibition

MLK Jr. National Historic Site Visitors Center (450 Auburn Ave NE) December 4 - March 5. The Speak Truth to Power photographic exhibition by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Eddie Adams will be on display free to the public from 9 am to 5 pm daily.
