momma-hood

you know, i never thought i'd be ok at getting up at 4:55 in the morning to prepare formula and feed babies for 30 minutes....but it was just great....little puppies are so cute! and their eyes are just beginning to open (i don't think they can see yet out of them) and their ears, i think, are still pretty shut. ok. so here's the run-down on the 3

the little boy: he is the biggest by far and is eating the most (almost an entire bottle at each feeding)...he has the typical colorings of a white and brown/black akita...very symetrical and cute. big pot belly.

little girl (middle): she's the middle-size one. her name is going to be some kind of female vocalist as she croons and sings all while eating and even while sleeping. we were discussing "joplin" this morning...one, because janis is a crappy name and two, she sounds kind of gravelly like janis. she's all a khaki/toffee brown on top with a white under-belly...her brown goes down her legs more than the little boy's

little girl (small): this is the bitty baby of the group. she is also the lover of the three. she's all white with a black head and a little black and white mottled nose. she eats the least (only 3-4 ounces per feeding) and always cuddles up into my arm and goes to sleep once i'm done burping her. she's also the one that will just chill when you put your hand in to pet her in the kennel.

so, let me tell you about this feeding thing. ok, i mix up both bottles, and put one in the microwave to get heated up later. i go get the boy (b/c he's pretty demanding if he doesn't get fed first) and i rinse him off and then feed him. he burps the least, and drinks the fastest...he's also almost kinda walking...much more so than the other two..it's more a strut - bounce and drag kind of thing. so then i put him back in the kennel (every third feeding, i have to change out all the bed clothes in the kennel so if i do that, i take the other 2 out and put them in a box while i'm feeding him and then switch out the stuff before i put him back in). so then i go to our crooner and feed her...she makes lots of noise and kneads your hands lots while she eats...usually she finishes the bottle he started and so i wander to the kitchen with her, still feeding, and heat up the other bottle in the micro - then i pull a switcharoo on the bottles and continue to feed her....given, all this time she is swaddled in a towel (drying off from her rinsing). finally, i go get little lover girl and rinse and sit down with her, she tends to like to lay against my belly and chest and i feed her the bottle from higher up. she gets burped (she burps a lot) and then she goes na na on me and i pet her for a few minutes and then put her back in with the other two. the whole process takes about 30 minutes or so right now.

i can't imagine what it will be like once they are walking around and stuff...dakota and shadow are already so intrigued (ubu could care less...doesn't even come near the room when i'm feeding them)...i think dakota remembers babies..b/c everytime they start crying she comes in and looks at them like she's trying to remember what it is she's supposed to do to make them stop crying. it's very cute.

switching topics. ok. so i was telling stacey yesterday about my screen name (simalthe) and how it was derived from my little yellow koosh-ball-like chicken SIMon ALvin THEodore that kenshata gave me one morning in mr. williams' chemistry class (probably while passing one of those stanford daily bball columns to me and skye). so on friday i come home from work (and yes, i still have simon)...and simon is not in his normal spot atop my dresser. i see him in the back/laundry room on the floor......be-headed. it broke my heart all the while making me laugh b/c i remember how much i yelled at kenshata when she and jewey (or maybe just jewey) took her simon (i think he was blue or lavender) and burned his little koosh-ball like points off one by one.....even though i was so upset that simon is now headless, and one-footed, i remember thinking, "well, he can join the ranks of the other simon chicken too." poor simon. i recovered part of his missing foot. i think his head was in shadow's tummy.

--------------------------
now, i have to study for this final. i'm not motivated. babies are so much more a priority. can i quit school and stuff and just become a full-time mommy? we need to win the lottery...i would run the BEST animal rescue ever - it would be a great facility with lots of doggie courtyards and kitty climbing trees....and i'd start a program for getting under-priveleged youth to have internships/jobs there so that they could not only have jobs that gave them opportunities for responsibility but also so they could go back and educate others about animal mistreatment....and we'd have "adopt doggies" days at the piedmont park dog park and everyone would be dying to get one of our animals and not some freaking expensive pure-bred dog from a breeder. *sigh* i just wish i could win the lottery...there are soo many good things that need to be done out in the world...if someone would give me the time and the resources, i would go do them!!
