4.05.2005 "Jelena, The College will call you (or e-mail you) soon about coming on the 20th of April to Awards Convocation. I think it is at 8 or 9a.m., but I'll let you know." and it goes on to say (in paraphrase) that i was selected to be this year's recipient of the ayse carden award. it's the award that agnes scott gives to an outstanding alum and "there is a big committee and Ruth Feicht (Ayse's best friend) organizes all of it and she knew that Ayse was very fond of you. Plus, you were a superstar at Agnes Scott. They really want you to come to get the sculpture and check. I hope you can come" ayse was a friend, a professor of mine, and i worked for her as a student worker during my time at agnes scott...last year, on february 4th, she passed away from cancer...i promised myself that day that i would never forget what she taught me...or the smiles and laughter we shared as we ate turkish chocolates that others turned down due to "the calories." i also promised myself that i would use her teachings of social psychology and my senior capstone seminar throughout my life and therefore try to give her memory the honor it deserved. and now, today, i get this e-mail and i've been chosen to represent ayse as the recipient of her award...i cannot even fathom how they selected me....this is a big deal. i remember the first ayse carden award they gave -- to this amazing alum who majored in both psych and econ at asc (and i was so excited to have her come and lecture to my classes because she was the first person i knew, other than myself, to have paired those majors)..i just hope that i deserve it as much as the college thinks that i do... 0 Comments: |
