5.30.2005 another entertaining thing happened once we came home yesterday evening. let's give the precursor to the story though. on tuesday, i was at sean and emily's getting their house keys from them b/c they left for a week and i'm feeding their fish...and we were talking about how i need to make copies of my house key and give them to someone who lives nearby or hide them somewhere around my house. b/c heaven forbid i get locked out...with bob in roswell working and having no flexibility to bail me out, it would be a good idea. we laugh about how funny it is that it's so easy to do these things, but that no one ever does them. ok. so friday comes along. i get home from anita's house about 11:40 in the morning. and my neighbor molly comes knocking on my door like 30 seconds later. she's lost her keys. they vaporized. she drove home, let herself in the house the night before, and now they're gone. she had a wedding up-do at noon to go do so i took her to work. she told me she'd just made 2 copies of their house key on monday (one to give to their new cleaning woman) and one to give to us (she hadn't given it to us, and therefore was able to lock the house up). ended up the keys never showed back up and they changed their locks and molly had to get some locksmith to come make a new key -- for $200!!!! (yeah - apparently new cars are micro-chipped and it costs a LOT to get a key made). ok. back to yesterday. well bob and i get home. and walk up to the door. and i start laughing b/c bob says "oh shit" and i realized that the house key is inside b/c we took it off my key chain earlier so he could get in while i went to tend to dogs and fish. and then we'd later left without it. well we go around and check the window over the back stairs (that's the way bob broke in one time...it was locked this time). checked the window by the door b/c i've noticed that it's funky locking sometimes. nope. got bob to hoist me (no easy feat) to check the bathroom window b/c i don't remember locking it. it was locked. i'm better at this shit than i thought. i thought the guest bedroom window might still be unlocked from above mentioned foray with the chipmunk. nope. BUT. finally, we get to the back of the house and to our bedroom window that was cracked about 2 inches. so we decide bob's going to go in. he climbs up on the 5 gallon bucked we've perched on a cinder block and then i boost him through the window, only to start dying laughing b/c we always lock the bedroom door with a latch from the outside so the dogs can't get in when we're gone. i was doubled over thinking about how we finally go in the house but bob would be locked in the bedroom 8 feet above the ground. luckily though, i had given in to the sleeping kitties before we left and just pulled the door to so that they could get out if they wanted to. bob still swears he would have just jerked the lock right out, but i'm wondering how easy it would have been. so we broke in to our own house. and the coincidence of having the spare key convo twice in the week already, paired with the neighbor making a key for us that she ended up having to use for herself has made me realize i need to go out with this gospel for you poor, lost souls. MAKE COPIES of your keys (unless you have new cars and the dealerships have figured out how to screw you out of a lot more money). and then take these copies and hide them in good places or give them to people. end of story. going to make ribs for our dinner (actually, finish the process that bob already started). 0 Comments: |
