stray doggie...

so i had a STRANGE experience tonight. i went to go try to find and catch this dog that was reported as a stray to my friend paige. so i drive out to wesley chapel road and go to this big shopping plaza and go talk to the people at the kroger gas station and ask about the dog. they know the dog. one of them has fed her. but they don't have any other info on her. so i decide to wander the shopping center - go around the back of all the buildings, looking around the dumpsters, i walk the parking lot, then i get in my car and drive the length of the center looking around some fast food restaurants and a bank. finally, i'm driving through the last place on my way out, a church's chicken and i see the dog. she's laying in teh grass. first, i was shocked that i saw her as i was about to leave. and also i was shocked that she looked nothing like a lab (which is what was reported), but that she looked a LOT like shadow. so i get out of the car and approach her and start to feed her and then get her to eat out of my hand. and then this woman approaches and i start talking to her and it turns out she's been taking care of the dog for 7 months (very much like erin took care of shadow before she could tame her). and she tells me that she's tried to leash her a few times, but the dog won't let her touch her. and that she was only caught once (by animal control), but she got away when they tried to get the leash on her (shadow was caught once but got away), that this woman found out she used to have a home a little way down, but she ran away and then the people moved away (get this - her name used to be shadow). and the woman said she's been calling her sophie (one of my 2 favorite names). and the more i look at the dog, the more she reminds me of shadow - she's a little bigger - closer to 35 lbs instead of 28 or whatever shadow is. but the story is the same. really. a woman has taken her under her wing and has tamed her enough to hand feed her...but can't catch her. the only reason shadow was caught is b/c she was being gang-raped by a bunch of stray male dogs and they chased her into the retention pond area and the neighbors locked the fence and shut her in and then got her. i'm hoping this dog doesn't go into heat soon and have the rest of the shadow coincidences play out. however, that gave me an idea. i talked to paige for a while and i'm going to go back and try to catch the dog again tomorrow. but if that plan doesn't work, maybe i can get kroger to work with me and open the gate to THEIR retention area and then capture her that way. anyway, i'm determined to help this dog. she's too much like shadow and this woman (marcia) wants to adopt her. so i'm going back and am going to try again.
