how i long to fall just a little bit, to dance out of the lines and stray from the light....
it is friday the 13th. i'm going to try and document the random and crazy of the day.
the first most random thing really occured last night...but it was only 4 hours til midnight so it's close enough. i was heading into the gym when a woman walked up and said, "hey, you're my neighbor." it was deb!! from across the street. she's on the swim team, too. who knew?! we're going to start car-pooling (maybe i'll get to ride in her fun yellow bug) and i need to ask if she's going to chicago with the rest of us.
last night after swimming, i was conned into going to brickstore with bob and several of his co-workers. which is relevant only in the fact that we talked about full moons and friday the 13th and thus prepared me to wake up to a crazy day. it seemed normal enough upon waking up...except the vertigo thing that's returned to haunt me again....on the way to work, i went to the post office where i saw an older man mailing a letter.....a real, true-to-goodness letter. he hadn't put it in the envelope yet and was re-reading it as he stood in line....his hand-writing belied his appearance....overalls, old ball cap...obviously a painter or some type of trade worker.....but he had a 3 page, beautifully hand-written letter he was sending out. who writes letters anymore? really...i don't remember the last one i received or the last one i sent.
i arrived at work to read an AJC news article in my e-mail about the crazy weather to expect for the day....fabulous...70 mph winds, hail as large as golf balls, and my dogs are all outside along with sammy who is staying with us for the weekend. so much for my normal day. at lunch, rachel scored an orange before peeling it...i've never seen that, was random and unique enough...and it made it ever so much easier to peel. why didn't i think of that? i ended up going home after lunch to put the dogs in after the skies opened up and zeus began hurtling lightning bolts from mount olympus....saw three wrecks and drove my way down a flash-flooded spring st.
i've come up with a present for a wish list. i want a black coffee mug (or some other suitable non-white color) with a picture of my dogs on it. curran has one of her niece ellie in front of the xmas tree and it's freaking adorable....but the black background of the mug makes it so.
barb and dan and i are about to undertake an ENORMOUS consulting project for a large client with a deadline of february 6th.why on earth would i not agree to this -- i get to work with barb and dan (two of my favorite people) , i will be compensated mightily, and you all know how i love to over-schedule my time.
i'll keep my ears and eyes open for any other unusual or random things that i want to take note of. be careful driving/traveling today if you live anywhere in the path of this horrific weather.

well the afternoon waned on....with some crazy color spectrum antics taking place in the sky as the battle between sunny fluffy clouds and embittered steel grey bludgers waged. i can't imagine what's happened to the temperature...i'm sure it's plummeted.
i have an hour and a half left of work. and about an hour and a half left of work to do. that works out well. barb e-mailed me a forward from one of her co-workers over at tlg a keynote address. this alum, susan, made a speech today to the seniors re: senior transitions. it moved me. i'll post part of it here later this weekend. there are times, many, where i wish i could just go re-live a week of life at agnes scott...there is so much i treasure about my time there and i fear that memory will play its cruel trick and soften the edges until all that remains is but a pleasant blur. but want not for the past....the future comes upon us too quickly now.
and now, my allotted 4 minutes to post is up. --------------------------- edited 9:42 a.m. 1.14.05
there were only two more things of note for the day yesterday...the first was that after the entire office had left work except for myself, my mouse kept freezing up on my computer...the computer wouldn't be frozen, just the mouse. i took it out and plugged it in again, no change. i had to re-start my computer to get the mouse to work again. then....it did it again about 20 minutes later. the third time happened less than 10 minutes after the second...i then gave up...i've used this computer for over a year and never had a problem. all of a sudden on a friday (the 13th) at 6:40 or so my mouse decides to go haywire? annoying. and weird.
for dinner, em and i went to la casita (yummy for the tummy) and she gave me a card. to back up a bit....at lunch, one of our less appropriate co-workers was telling us that he has a friend who says that if you want people to laugh, both midgets and monkeys are always funny...we all just kind of looked at him and went on with our conversation. well, i open my card from em and it's a cute picture of a saddled horse and a little boy hanging down the side of the horse, holding on to the saddle horn. the boy is maybe 2 feet tall and so instantly brought to mind the "midgets and monkeys" comment. however, i felt that em would not understand it if i said anything, so i laughed internally and opened the card. inside was a small envelope with a target gift card inside it --- the gift card was in the shape of a monkey. then it was too coincidental and so i told her the story.....and the boy really does look like a "little person" as he's all dressed up in cowboy gear, hat and all.
now, to the PAWS atlanta orientation so that i can start volunteering at the no-kill animal shelter on a regular basis. yeah! and then to see the gym dawgs in athens....but no, we won't be tailgating with the rest of the 10,000 fans......

Aw, damn you're going to athens!! I'm jealous!
Yeah, nobody sends letters anymore but don't worry because I just bought a book of stamps.
What do you mean she 'scored' the orange before she peeled it?
Have a great time today!
