6.15.2006 on the beachside the other day, while sharing some crab claws with bob, i had this discussion with him about being "tethered" and its merits and drawbacks....the impetus for the conversation was our beloved friend jody, who has time and again uprooted himself, sold all worldly possessions, and moved to a new place to begin anew. from atlanta to hawaii to colorado to atlanta down to nothing when his apartment burned down and now to florida. however, the point of all this was that it is not your things or your physical home that make your home, "home." it's the people. i could pick up my adorable house, all my things, and all my animals and land in another in-town east atlanta village place elsewhere...but for me, the largest component of "home" IS the people i have around me and the relationships i've developed. for others, this is not the case...as in jody. my heart breaks a little more each time someone close to me takes up that challenge and sees the dawn in another time and place....and as many people that have come, made their deep impression, and then gone on to new climes....my heart still shatters a little more with each goodbye. what will i ever do when i get to the crossroads of making a decision to uproot and follow a dream or to stay and pursue the current one? 0 Comments: |
