12.23.2006 i was chided by many folks this week - so i am back....instead of editing the dissertation i am supposed to be working on, i will share thoughts of deepest meaning and incidents of utmost import. i hate christmas. really, if you're a friend of mine - you are quite privy to this and so i will not launch into a diatribe or details here. however, i will definitely say that there are some things about this holiday season i've loved (yes the list is short, but it exists). 1) xmas trees - only live ones. it's something about it being perfectly acceptable to have an over-sized plant in your home for a while. that and the dogs preferring pine-flavored water to fresh. 2) cookie-decorating/cookie swaps - wendy had a fun get-together last week where we swapped cookies (the fact that i disliked almost all the cookies i got is beside the point -- the rest of it was fun and i LOVE the idea). and today nev, becky, kristin and i had a good ole time "dipping shit and nuts in chocolate". 3) sharing of food-eating times - in this anorexic, calorie-obsessed world we live in, most (note i say most) people actually go back to something resembling human and don't talk about "how fat they are" or how they "just can't eat that"...fuck you already - share good times and good food with friends. that's the end of the list. yup. nothing more to like. at all. krismakkuh dinner was something uber-fun - we tried jenny's yummo stir-fry, cassi's rockstar bread dips, and we PLAYED DDR. actually, i really watched more than participated - but it may be more fun that way. and the school of rock cd has provided endless bouts of laughter - living on a prayer and hey ya are the best ones, hands down. you all know in addition to hating xmas, i am pretty anti-tradition. but today, i encountered one tradition that makes me glad to be from the south (shocked, i know)....and that's the fact that in the south, even if we're on a four-lane divided highway, we will stop and pull over to the side to show our respects for a funeral procession passing by (on either side of the road). one day i will post some good pictures on here. i have so many that qualify for public domain - from drag halloween to my entire company drunk together and doing the train at the corporate retreat to vieques paradise sunsets to "santa" visiting with the voice of beth at 1:30 in the morning and on it goes. by the way, i need you people to vote (via comments) on the subject line - is it spooch or spooge? or something different. i've got an angelic leo trying to aid in typing here....and assorted other furkids around my feet. at paige's yesterday i got the scent of about 15 dogs on me....there was a FIELD DAY when i came home - but cesar says that you are supposed to allow them to sniff when you come in - and we are working on training, cesar-style...little leo is going to not be a yipper when people show up at the door by the end of the week, and my girls are going to be less hyper when i get home...they are mellow 95% of the time so they can do it when i come home too. ok. time to bathe another dog and then get cranking on the dissertation... 0 Comments: |
